Ilex × altaclerensis 'Golden King', mid October. "...its broad oblong leaves are occasionally spined but overall smooth to the touch. Leaves have a hefty margin of golden yellow followed by a thin mottled irregular band of pale green then a richer, deeper centre. Some leaves are wholly yellow but don't develop. Contrary to its name, this is a female and regularly laden with berries from October that colour intense red just in time for Christmas."
