Camellia japonica 'Gray's Invincible'. Raised in 1824 by Mr Press, gardener for Edward Gray, a London linen draper. It was a cross of 'Semi-duplex' (from China in 1808) and 'Alba Simplex' (a seedling of 'Variegata').  (From catalogue, Camellias in the Conservatory Festival 2011, Chiswick House and Gardens).
