Cherry blackfly, early April. A species of aphid (Myzus pruniavium) that causes new leaves to curl tightly and become distorted. Their upper surfaces are sticky with the honeydew that the insects excrete and may develop a grey sooty mould. Heavy infestations damage new shoots.
