Apple 'McIntosh', early September. A North American dessert apple discovered by John McIntosh, a farmer in Ontario, in the early 19th century. its popularity has not spread outside North America, and indeed most production, remains centred in New England and across the border in Quebec and Ontario. Also grown in northern Europe, Poland and Austria. Rarely grown in the UK, where it does not do well.
