Short or Smooth Luffa, glasshouse, late September. A tender vine belonging to the Cucumis or cucumber family, this luffa is a smooth skin sponge gourd and has green and slightly ribbed fruit. It is grown for food or sponges. The young fruit are cooked or used in salads.
