Echium russicum, early June. An upright, rosette-forming, biennial or short-lived perennial with linear to lance-shaped, hairy, grey-green leaves and long, slender, erect panicles of dark red to reddish-pink flowers in summer. Sometimes known as Red-flowered viper's grass, Echium rubrum, or Red-flowered viper's bugloss.
