Persicaria polystachya, mid October. "I have an autumn-flowering Persicaria polystachya, which seemed to be well behaved when I saw it in Beth Chatto's garden, but is anything but in mine. I like it, though. The October display of sweetly scented white blossom is very welcome. But it may need to be brought to heel as often as every other year." [Christopher Lloyd, The Guardian, Saturday 18 October 2003]
