Tulipa sylvestris, mid April. The wild tulip of central and northern Europe described by Linnaeus in 1753. Prior to that, it was recorded around Bologna, Italy, in the mid-1500s, reached southern Scandinavia in the mid-1700s and Britain in the late-1700s, and has been naturalized in Maryland, Massachusetts and Pennslyvania, USA.
