Apple 'King of the Pippins', early September. A very old dual-purpose culinary-dessert apple whose origins may be Engish or French. Once called 'Golden Winter Pearmain' in the UK it was renamed 'King of the Pippins' in the early 19th century, although in the west Midlands, it may still be called 'Prince's Pippin'. In France it has been known as 'Reine des Reinettes' since the 1770s, and in Germany as 'Gold Parmaine' or 'Gold Parmane'.
