A pear infected with brown rot. Fungal spores find their way under a damaged area of skin. The fruit then develops soft, brown, rotten patches. As these spread, white, crusty spots or pustules appear, often in circular patterns. Eventually the fruit shrivels up and either afls to the ground or remains on the tree in a dessicated state.
