Pear leaf blister mite late in the season, early September. Microscopic mites (Eriophyes pyri) live within the tissue of the tree's leaves, releasing a damaging toxin as they feed. Initially, pink or yellow-green blisters appear on the leaves, either side of the central rib. These turn darker as the summer progresses.
