About Alan Buckingham

I am a freelance writer, editor, gardener and photographer. Most of my career has been in illustrated publishing, both as an editor and as an author, and I have worked on countless information books, and in most forms of digital media. In recent years I have written chiefly about gardening and photography, my two main interests. My books Allotment Month by Month, Grow Vegetables and Grow Fruit are illustrated with many of my own pictures.

For many years I was a plot-holder on the prestigious Royal Paddocks Allotments near Hampton Court Palace, south-west London. I now live in East Sussex. Every summer I prove myself incapable of heeding my own advice and consequently grow far more fruit and vegetables than I and my family could ever hope to eat. Should I ever be given the opportunity to have my time again, I would happily swap my career in publishing for one as a head gardener.
